Three artists sit together in a tiny art gallery, tucked in the alleyways of the quaint Bukharin neighborhood of Jerusalem. Nechama Shaish, and her similarly-talented daughters Sari Lanzizsky and Brachi Brilovsky, three Kollel wives and eighth generation Jerusalem residents, channel the holy city’s light and inspiration to paint and canvas, exported worldwide to galleries and collectors.
In Nechama's own words:
Born and raised in a small apartment in the Geula neighborhood, I was surrounded by my mother's keen eye for beauty and my father's talent for creative construction.
Although there was no money for art lessons, paint or canvases, I would dream and imagine the beauty of the streets and people of Yerushalayim, and how I would capture them on paper. I used scraps of paper to draw whenever I could.
After I married, my passion for painting grew, and I felt this quiet urge to express myself creatively.
I started by creating needlepoints. Painting canvas and yarns with my own mix of colors, I captured the essence of the life and children of Yerushalayim. But it wasn't enough. I need to travel to Europe and America to sell my paintings, to view works of art from the masters and learn from them.
Today, my work is well-known for its eclectic, yet traditional blending of colors that capture the nuances of the people and places of Israel.
I am immensely grateful that Hashem has given me this incredible gift, and take great pleasure in giving this over to my two daughters Brachi and Sari. Together, we combine our talents to capture the austere beauty of Yerushalayim, its streets and its inhabitants.
I invite you to visit our studio in the picturesque Bukharin neighborhood of Jerusalem to savor some of the most authentic and exquisite Jerusalemite art!
