Beit Knesset HaChurva - In Spiritual Blues and Whites
My family comes from this place, the old city. As a young girl I walked the narrow streets, stone everywhere, imaging, dreaming of another time and place. How this very synagogue would look when the Mashiach comes. I come here still, and think of the Jews of thousands of years ago who came by this way. The Jews who will yet come. They come in droves, in their travelling cloaks, a journey of many days. Finally, they stand before the walls of the city, thousands of abodes, in the beauty of a blue dawn. They are making a pilgrimage to the temple with their offerings, and here they pass on the way. Bet Knesset HaChurva, the ruined synagogue, a relic of another time, stands tall, dominating the landscape. Because now there is no temple, and those pilgrimages, they could be me or you, making our way through the old city, past the broken, the ruined, hoping - as Jews have for centuries - for the light of the redemption. This is a high-quality print on artists' canvas.
